I decided to make some Towel Bibs for my little guy, since he not only spits up like crazy but he had to start an antibiotic treatment for ear infections, which means PINK spitup. Not something I want all over myself, his clothes, or my house. So, here's how to make them:
Towel Bibs are super easy to make! You can whip one out in about 15-20 minutes. They can be used on anyone, and are especially great for spit-uppy babies and for toddlers just learning to eat (trust me on both counts!!!). For older kids, you can call them “Sunday Covers” to wear over their Sunday clothes when eating. The adult version I like to call “Executive Covers.” My 5-year old calls them Mommy Bibs. Great for when you are fully dressed for work and still have to eat, or put your makeup on! Let’s be honest– how many of you have draped a dish towel over your front while eating when you are wearing something you really don’t want to spill on?
Supplies needed:
Terrycloth tea or finger towel (this size works great for an infant)
Double-fold Bias Tape
Velcro or ribbing
Thread
Appliqués, Ric-rac, Ribbon, etc. (optional)
1. Fold the longest part of the towel into thirds, then unfold bottom edge. Then fold the towel in half, to find the center of the first fold. Using a tape measure, measure in from the corner of the fold 1½" to form a quarter circle. Cut through all layers to cut a circle out of the towel. This makes your neck hole.

2. Option 1– Measure enough ribbing to go around the neck hole. Sew the ribbing into a circle, right sides together. Then fold it in half with the seam on the inside, wrong sides together. Pin & sew the ribbing onto the neck hole you cut into the towel, right sides together, adjusting it to fit. Top-stitch.
3. Option 2– Cut a straight line from left edge of towel into the neck circle you cut previously. You should have what looks like a sideways lollipop cut out of your towel. Sew Double-Fold Bias Tape around all raw edges. Sew two 1-inch pieces of Velcro along straight cut edges for opening/closing.
4. Add decorative appliqué, embroidery, ribbon, Ric-rac, or contrasting fabric detail of your choice. You can spray Scotch guard on the back to make it more water-proof if you want. These make a great gift!! If you love to make baby blankets for your grandchildren or friends, why not whip up a few of these bibs to match? You can embellish them with a little strip of matching fabric!

these are the best bibs ever, that absorb! I made them for all my babies! Another tip, use a small bowl to cut out circle neck hole :)
I have another friend that makes these but they are mostly for babies as she takes the towels and then sews in a shirt collar from old t-shirts. but I really like your velcro idea!!!! (esp the "executive" ones ha ha)
I was so grateful to have all of our towel bibs when the girls were little. They were super handy and I didn't have to worry about them pulling their bib off. What a great mommy you are!
