So, after whining on my last post about not wanting to potty-train, or not knowing if T was ready, I finally decided that I needed to just give it a shot. The fact that it was on my mind so much made me think that perhaps I should just try... if we failed, oh well- wait and start in the spring. If we succeeded, yaay! I had been building a mountain out of a molehill in my mind.
So, on Thursday the 17th, off came the diaper and on went the undies. And we were downtown all morning, and at a luncheon that day, then home. T did great the first 3 hours, then all of a sudden he was wet almost every hour, even though I kept taking him to the bathroom. It was a very frustrating day. The next day, slightly better- but still many accidents. I began to worry that perhaps we tried too soon. But, I knew I had to give it atleast one week, so I washed many batches of laundry to keep up with the wets (fortunately, no messy accidents at that point). By Sunday, he was actually starting to get the hang of it- as long as we reminded him every hour or two. He did great during church, I am happy to say. But that night, we were down in Orem and had company over- and one of T's best buddies who he LOVES to play with was over. Regardless of me trying multiple times to get him to the bathroom, he had a messy accident. Not fun, at all. But I think it taught him that it is not ok to do skinkies in his undies, because he didn't like having me scrub him down in the tub after wards.
It has been 12 days, and he is now mostly accident-free! And has been dry every night. Jim and I have decided that once a child is ready to be potty-trained, you go cut & dry with the diapers and keep the undies on at night, too. Otherwise, they will learn that they can still wet their pants at night. Granted, each case is different so I am not saying this method works on every child. I'm just so happy that T is now such a big boy, and will come tell me when he needs to go potty. Having one less child in diapers will help the pocket book a lot! Especially since we had to go up to size 6 for Madi. That is the last size in baby diapers- hopefully they will fit her for a while!
Madi is switching to a new school this Thursday. It is called Dan Peterson and is across the street fron the hospital in American Fork. She will still ride the bus and be picked up & dropped off at the same spot, but she will switch to all-day school, so I will have to wait downtown until she is out. Aspen gets out at the same time, but since Madi's bus will drop her off last after school, I won't be able to meet her bus until 4:15. So I will have to pick Aspen up from school, then wait 45 minutes before getting Madi. That part will be hard during these cold winter months until I can wait outside at the playground with the kids when the weather warms up. We are really hopeful that this new program will help her learn to communicate and master some of the life skills she needs (feeding herself, helping get herself dressed, etc.). The plan is that Madi will be at this school for a year or two, then go back to the Small Group setting again.
And, last but not least, Aspen is getting Baptized this Saturday! She has been so excited for this day for months now, especially after watching her best friend from school get baptized a couple of months ago. It's fun to watch my little girl growing up. In so many ways, she is beyond her years, but still my little girl at the same time.

We're anxious to hear how Madi does at her new school. I think you're doing the right thing for her. We're looking forward to seeing all of you on Saturday.
Holy Cow! She's already 8?!?! It seems like just yesterday when you were having her. WEIRD. Hope all went well with the baptism-wish we could've been there to celebrate with you.
Congratulations! What an accomplishment! You must feel like a burden has been lifted. :) The kiddos are adorable. Yay for Aspen and her baptism - and Madi is so precious. Hope the school works well for you!
