A Really LOOOONG Night!

Our internet went down last week and we finally got it back up and running! So I thought I would share an experience we had last week. On Thursday night, Madi threw up all of her dinner in her crib after she went to bed. I went in to check on her, and noticed the mess- I was able to change her sheets and her jammies without really waking her up. The next morning, she was quite lethargic and just wanted to be held. Not completely uncommon, considering she is such a cuddly baby- but when she threw up again, and had some diarrhea, I decided it was time to take her in to the Dr. Well, they wanted to take a blood test, which ended up being a very traumatic experience for both Madi and I. It took 3 different doctors and 4 different pokes in her poor little arms before they were able to get a blood sample. 2 hours later, we were told to take her in to the hospital for I.V. therapy because she was so dehydrated. Once we got there, the trauma was repeated as they tried to locate her vein for an I.V. Fortunately, it only took 2 doctors and 1 poke this time. And once they got the I.V. in, they taped her arm almost up to the elbow (the I.V. was in her hand) so that we wouldn't have to go through that again if she pulled it out. She really wasn't doing too great at that point, being so dehydrated. But once the fluid started going in, she started to get some color back into her cheeks. They wanted to keep us there overnight, so I spent a long, sleepless night in the hospital with her. She actually slept pretty well, but I was quite uncomfortable until I decided to just crawl up into the bed with her. The next morning, she woke up bright-eyed and perky, and just wanted to EAT. She was able to keep everything down, and was doing so well that they let us go that afternoon. Quite the experience! I'm so grateful that she is healthy enough that we don't have to do this very often! At the time, I wasn't too worried about her condition since she didn't have a fever or any symptoms of being sick- just sudden onset of throwing up and diarrhea. It could have been extremely serious, so I'm truly grateful that her doctors were on the ball with it.

Thank goodness for modern medicine and good doctors! It's scary to think what kind of simple things today could have been life threatening in the past. Sweet Madi!

Oh Poor Madi! So sorry you had to have that experience, but good job on making sure she was taken care of. I've always thought that doctors and hospitals were more traumatic on the mommies than on the kiddos. Hope she's doing better!!!

Wow, and that could happen to anyone, especially in the summertime. Crazy! I am so glad it wasn't more serious and that you both are doing okay. I'm sorry it was so miserable for you though. She was probably happy and back to normal and you were tired from a sleepless night... :)

OH no! Poor Madi, I'm glad she's alright. I hate when our babies get pocked and prodded!
