Matching Battle Wounds

Today Madi and I both had to have some blood drawn. Unbeknownst to me, the lab had moved to a different building of the Hospital, so after parking, getting the kids out of the car and into the Hospital, I found out that we were in the wrong spot. Had it been a nice day outside, we would have just walked to the next building. But it was FREEZING outside, so we went back to the car, loaded everyone up, and drove about 40 yards to the next parking lot, and did the whole thing over again. Fortunately, we found the right place very easily and the staff were very kind and helpful. So I had my blood drawn first, and I must say that having my blood drawn is sometimes quite traumatic. More than half the time, they miss my veins or can't find them and end up sticking the other arm too. The girl working today was very good, though- she got it on the first shot and I barely felt anything. She was excellent with Madi, too. Madi didn't even cry until she realized that the 2nd nurse was holding her arm down. She screamed just to get the nurse to let go of her arm- didn't even feel the prick when they drew her blood. Her blood draw is just an annual thing her Doctor wants her to do- to check her thyroid and do a blood count, just to make sure everything is OK. We've been told that kids with DS have an increased risk for developing Leukemia. Something I hope we NEVER have to go through! Here are some pictures of our matching battle wounds. Aspen, by the way, was extremely happy that she didn't have to "get a poke" and was very impressed that Mommy was so brave and didn't cry :)

I am also very impressed that you were so brave and didn't cry. Way to go Mom! :o)
By the way, have I mentioned lately how completely adorable your girls are? Are they for sale?!

Did you get your blood drawn at Orem Community? I got mine done there a couple weeks ago, and I was very happy that they could find my vein too. The previous time I had my blood drawn they missed the vein twice and then tried the other arm... then I passed out.

Not for sale, but possibly for borrow?

I got it drawn at UVRMC. The girl who did it was well-seasoned, and excellent! Sorry that you had a traumatic experience- that's usually similar to what happens to me :)

Love it. So you have small veins? I have small veins too and I donated blood once and will never do it again. I'm sure you've had a similar experience.

Good job brave Mommy! I'm glad you didn't faint! I remember you about did when we were little and Mom and Dad took us kids in for some blood testing :) It's hard to cry in front of your kids, I had to take Josh with me to get a wart frozen about 5 years ago, and I couldn't help it. He still talks about it once in awhile. I'm not saying crying is bad, but I didn't want to scare/traumatize him. I don't think he is scared though, everytime we watch Extreme Home Makeover he ALWAYS checks to see if I'm crying... :)
