I had my 30-week appointment on Monday. Actually, I was 30.3 weeks. This time, my uterus measured the same as it did 2 weeks ago, but I had gained a few pounds, which was actually good news. I am measuring at 31-32 centimeters. If my uterus had continued to get bigger, I would have been more concerned. The doc still thinks things are going well. I did mention to him that I am hoping to go a bit more natural with my delivery, and only have a local anesthetic. He said that realistically, those only help right at the very end when the baby crowns and comes out. Hmm. I said that I am hoping that I won't have to be induced this time around, and he said that although that is the ideal situation, we have to be realistic and consider my history. So... he wasn't too encouraging about it, and he has good reason to err on that side of things. The only one I haven't been on Pitocin and an epidural with was Madi, and that was because she was just so fast. Like, less than an hour of hard labor pains and she was out... and that is because I held her in until we got to the hospital. The Doc said that we will see how things are looking when I hit 37 weeks. So I guess we'll just wait and see. It's not really that far off, in the long run. In the short run, it feels like forever! I can't even walk across the parkinglot or stand up from a sitting position without hurting. I know, I complain a lot. It just feels like I am sticking straight out with this one, more so than with my others. My MIL bought me a maternity support belt the other day. What a world of difference that makes! It really helps hold the baby up and take some of the pressure off my lower back and hips.
May Crew started on Monday. That means things will be picking up around here for Jim. It's good for him to be busy and have things to do, but it also means the beginning of training a new set of students. The next 2 months will be really busy with that, but it is exciting too. If the baby comes around his due date, it will be a really good time for Jim to have a break, and hopefully be able to take some time off. I'm glad that we will have more of our meals over in the Dining Hall. Now I won't have to come home at 5:00 and worry about what to fix for dinner every day or spend as much time bending over the dishwasher. Or standing at the stove! You know you are 7 months pregnant when you actually like standing on a cold tile or cement floor in your bare feet, and consider bending down to place your hands on it, too!
So Jim finished his Anatomy class with a B. Hooray!!!! So glad that is done. Now he is going to work on finishing up Biology in the next few months, and maybe squeeze in a Medical Terminology class before the summer is over. This fall, most likely it will be Physiology which I think he will enjoy. He found a lot of satisfaction taking his Anatomy class. It was a good break away from work, but also a good change of pace for him. It was good to see him more at peace with himself, his job, and things in general. Except right around test time :)
Madi's favorite tricks lately: grab whatever she can reach off the counter or table, and destroy it. Like this bag of bread.
And this bag of corn flakes. There's only so much we can do to Madi-proof the house...

I think Madi is quite the artist. I love how creative she is in selecting her medium.
I'm glad things are going well with your pregnancy! 30 weeks - you're at the home stretch! I had the drug Stadol with my first 3 deliveries. It is not a local, but something they inject into your bloodstream via your IV. It really helped to take the edge off, help me relax, while still experiencing a more natural delivery. It is also something that is quick to administer. I wouldn't recommend it if you're induced or on Pitocin though. Anyway - ask your Dr. about that one!
