Current projects

Since I haven't been very good at writing in my journal lately, I've decided to update my blog on what I've been doing, then copy & paste in into my journal, since I keep one on the computer anyways...

My most recent project is Project Marathon. I've been training for the Utah Valley Half-Marathon, which starts at the bottom of my canyon and ends at the recently burned-down Provo Tabernacle. I was very excited to sign up for this, until the first month of running on the treadmill when I discovered pain in the arches of my feet. Come to find out, I have a form of Plantar Fascitis (sp?) and need arch supports. HOPEFULLY that will correct the project and I can complete the Half-Marathon (that's my goal now... it was to get my time to under 2 hours. Now I just hope to be able to finish, with the pain in my feet not seeming to improve any). We'll see what happens there. In between running on the treadmill, I've started doing my DDR on the WII- and my stomach is flattening out again! Hooray! AND I am up to Level Difficult, and holding my own there.

So I thought it would be fun to post some pictures of the sewing projects I am currently working on, or that I finished recently. I know- it's a miracle that I actually finish anything, but occasionally it happens!

These are some baby burp cloths that I did for my Quilt Guild's Service Day. I wasn't able to stay at the meeting to help out much, so I brought these home to do. Fortunately they were all cut out for me, all I had to do is sew them together!

This is my most recent quilt, which I am in LOVE with! It is made with 1930's reproduction fabrics, from a kit I bought while at home in Twin Falls last month. Every once in a while I run into a project where I absolutely love every step of the process. This quilt is turning out to be one of those for me.

This is a quilt top that I put together from a Layer Cake (a set of 42 different printed 10-inch squares) that I bought for Aspen's Birthday. She picked out 5 squares that she loved before I made this quilt, and I made her a little doll blanket out of them. Actually, it is a stuffed animal blanket, because that is what she is really into right now. She really hasn't been much of a doll girl, and that is ok. I'm going to finish this top by tying it, and let her use it as a bed quilt at the house in Orem.

This project has been sitting on the shelf for about a year now. Those poor little blocks came together, then I started other things, and haven't had a chance to finish it off yet. That's what happens when I try to make my own pattern- I'm just not good with the math yet, so it ends up getting only halfway done, until I work up the nerve to figure out how to finish it. But I really love the colors! It was from a Jelly Roll (42 different 45-inch long by 2.5-inch wide strips) that I bought off ebay. One day, it will be a beautiful quilt, I promise.

This has been a project in-the-works for about 4 years now. I made the middle block (the one that says Believe) from a Make & Take project from Quilt Guild. It was to give us a chance to experiment with Red Work. I loved making the block, but didn't want to just make a pillow out of it, so I set it in the To-Do box, until I won the Honey Bun strips (1.5-inch wide by 44-inch long) at a drawing, and discovered that they matched the Believe block perfectly. I started making the 9-patch blocks at Christmastime, then got busy with other things, so there it sits... one day it, too, will be a beautiful Christmas quilt.

This was the project that I got busy with at Christmastime. It was a table runner and set of placemats that I made for my sis-in-law. I had to alter a pattern that I got out of a quilting magazine to make it work, but it was so fun to work with the green fabrics, and I was sorely tempted to keep it for myself after it was finished because it turned out so pretty. For once, most of my points matched up like they were supposed to. Maybe I should make smaller quilts more often.

Ahh, one of the crown jewels here. This was the second quilt I made like this one, from this adorable pattern by V. and Co.

LOOOOVE IT!! This one went to my cousin, the first one I made went to a sis-in-law...

...and this one, the third I've made, also went to a sis-in-law. I love this pattern. It's adorable, it comes together quickly, and gives me a chance to work on my free-motion quilting.
Hopefully I'll get around to finishing some of those un-finished projects... which actually only represent about half of the projects sitting in my pile of to-do's!

How fun! I love seeing all your projects. You are amazing! I love how the reproduction-prints quilt is turning out. I'm glad you're loving it so much. I also love the fabrics and pattern of Aspen's quilt.
Also, we must be two-of-a-kind because I bought that exact same jelly-roll (4th picture) to make a Happy Birthday banner! I loved the colors and the fabrics and I still do!
I really hope your foot pain subsides soon. It must be such a frustration to have such a great goal but not be able to train as fully as you'd like. I am jealous of your flattening abs!

I'm sorry about your arches, but I am SOOOO excited for the race! :) I am amazed by all of the quilting that you are doing. I LOVED the table runner and placemats! Anyway! Kim, you are A-MAZING! WOW! Once we move into our new house, and things kind of settle down a little bit, I think it would be fun to quilt together. Then you could show me all the tricks!
