Quilting Projects

This year, I was asked to be the Editor for the monthly Newsletter in my local Quilt Guild. It's a big job, and takes me about 6-8 hours each month, putting it all together and getting it to the post office to mail. But it's a great way for me to serve on the Board without having to go to a lot of extra meetings. It also motivates me to keep working on my quilting. Here are some projects I've worked on in the last several years:
This is a Medallion Quilt I made from a Block of the Month pattern in the Newsletter 3 years ago. I made it for Aspen's bed to match a wall quilt I made for her. I've never made a quilt like this before and it was a good challenge for me. I did the machine quilting on it- one of the first quilts I have attempted that on.

This wall quilt was from a McKenna Ryan pattern I bought online several years ago. It was very different from any quilts I had made before- it required a lot of cutting and piecing of very little pieces, but was a lot of fun! I machine quilted it myself. It's hanging in our bedroom.

This is a Memory Quilt I put together for my Mother-In-Law's 60th birthday this past December. It represents blocks made by all 12 of her Children, and all of the Grandchildren as well. It was so fun to do this!

This was a quick & easy block quilt I made using only left-over fabric in my stash. It's one of Jim's favorites that I've made. It was my first machine quilting project- but I stayed with straight lines, so it wasn't too difficult.

This cute flower quilt was made from a kit I bought at the Quilt Fair last summer. It was pretty easy to do- all the flowers have edges that will fray, so in time it will have more of a 3-D look. The flower blocks, with the large 9-patch blocks made it very easy, and very cute! My machine quilting is getting a little better...

This baby quilt was also from a kit I purchased at the fair last summer. I had a lot of fun putting this one together. I still have to quilt all 3 layers together so it isn't finished yet. I'm making it for Madi.

This was a pattern I bought 2 years ago at the November Aspen Grove Quilting Retreat. I put most of this together at the retreat, and haven't touched it again since. How convenient that the Guild likes to come up here for the retreat! It is a very easy pattern to make. It was made from fabric I got from my Mom, who got it from my Great Grandma Hansen. It's still unfinished also, I need to put borders on it and then finish it. I'm really glad I used the brighter pink- it really stands out.

This is my most recent project- also still unfinished. It was a pattern in a magazine on how to use up leftover fabrics in your stash. I love those kinds of patterns because I hate to throw any fabric away! And I love how this one is turning out. It still needs it's borders as well before I finish it.

Another of my most recent ones. This is a Snowball pattern I found online. The fabric came in a bundle called a Layer Cake. It's fun to purchase fabric in kits, because you get a wide variety of different fabrics and colors. This one is really small, I'm thinking of buying another set of the same fabric to make it a little bigger. Or, maybe just putting some borders on it and having it be a smaller quilt- haven't decided yet.

This has been a project I've been working on for several years. All the butterflies are sewn on by hand. It was also a quilt I made with fabrics exclusively from my stash. The white and blue in the borders and background are from sheets that Aspen Grove was getting rid of. The backing on this quilt will also be a blue sheet. This was fun for me to make, although it took a lot of work! It's still unfinished as I am trying to decide whether to hand-quilt it together, or machine quilt it. I have a really hard time seeing a project through from start to finish. I do much better when I have many projects going on at a time and I can bounce between them- it keeps me from getting bored, and making sloppy mistakes from trying to just hurry and finish something. I really love quilting though. It is a great creative outlet for me, especially when I spend so much time at home. Hopefully, I will get some of these quilts finished by the end of the year! I plan on making a baby quilt for the new baby coming on October, as well as some new Crib bedding.

Kim, you are so talented! I was just trying to figure out how to sew different pieces of fabric together correctly for pajamas! It's really hard to understand. I can't imagine sewing those kinds of quilts together. Amazing. Maybe I'll get there someday. For now, I'm stuck trying to make aprons and pajama pants.

I've been thinking of you a lot this week, which means I should be on the phone instead of blogging you, but know that I'm thinking of you! Hope you're feeling well!
